Basawan Hand woven

Named after the miniature artist of Mughal Empire, Basawan was one of the most talented painter of his era, he devoted his time to the emperors to create compelling portraits of the event taking place.

This suit is an ode to his artistic brilliance, the intricate designs on Daman and Dupatta enriches the design theory conveyed by him. The enigmatic Motifs handwoven on this suite by our master artisans is a testimonial that his art will move forward for the future generations to adore

What am I?

I am a pair of Shirt, Dupatta and Trouser Hand-woven by the master and rare artisans of Pakistan.

About my fabric.

I was made with 100% fine cotton making me a breathable fabric.

How I was woven?

I was woven by "Meenedaar" Jacquard technique - a rare process that's almost extinct in Pakistan.

How much time did it take?

It took my weaver 12 hours to weave only the Shirt Fabric.

What's Unique about me?

My Pret is created using Meenedaar technique which means that the weaver weaves each thread by his hands, as the motif consists of many colors it takes nearly 9 minutes to complete one small motif. Moreover it signifies the intricacy of the Mughal Artist Basawan.

About my colors.

Do not worry! I will not loose my colors, I am yarn-dyed by OEKO-TEX® certified dyes, which makes me more comfortable and irritation free, which means that I'll never harm your skin.

My Weaver.

 

I was woven by Voile's master artisan "Yusuf"

Yusuf (Aged 59) migrated with his family from India in 1973 and started working alongside his father from the age of 10 in their family-run business, but due to this art vanishing from Pakistan, they couldn’t run their business at a profitable level and thus, ended up shutting down. Yusuf is one of those talented hand-weavers who believe that this art will eventually become extinct in the upcoming generation, hence his children won’t adopt this art and focus on other fields, however he wishes to pass this unique art to them.

Voile and its master artisans are vigorously working to breathe life into the art of hand-weave, we hope that by promoting this art to our valuable customers the next generation of our artisans might carry on the tradition of hand-weave.
